Academy has shortlisted nine foreign films from the 65 submitted to advance to the next round of voting.

The films, listed in alphabetical order by country, are:

The shortlist will be winnowed down to the five nominees by specially invited committees in New York and Los Angeles. The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Feb. 2 in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The Academy Awards will be presented March 7 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.
