DR SUESS' HORTON HEARS A WHO

Cast: Jim Carrey, Steve Carrell, Seth Rogen

Directed by Jimmy Hayward/ Steve Mortino

Studio: 20th Century Fox

Dr Seuss now comes in the 3D animated form. After appearing in traditional animation styles early on, we all saw Jim Carrey comes out with a live version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Mike Myers doing A Cat in the HAt for you. Dr Seuss now comes in the latest form - as Dr Suess' Horton Hears A Who....brought to you by BlueSky Animations - the same studio that brought Ice Age!

It tells the tale of a planet of people who land up on earth...the problem is that this planet is no larger than a speck. However the voices of this entire population comes to the ears of the elephant Horton (Jim Carrey). Horton soon realises that the speck is the land of Who-ville and it is upto him to protect this city and find a safe place for the people of Who-ville. For this he joins hands with the mayor of Whoville (Steve Carrell).

While Horton's notion of the city of Whoville is scoffed by the other animals in the Jungle of Nool, the Mayor too faces similar ridicule when he informs his people about the dangers of extinction that the city is facing. But together against all odds, they fight for the beliefs.

The story, written almost 50 years back, is still a fantastic piece of fable for the fickle world that we live today. And the USP of the film certainly is the wonderful voice casting that boasts of some of the big names in the comedy bracker - Jim Carrey, Steve Carrell, Seth Rogen all coming together. However unlike most of the star studded animation films that we see, this one promises to make use of their abilities than just mere star power.

PANEL ROOM

gives it a 4/5

IT seems that the film has really hit bullseye retaining the charm of the works of Dr Seuss without resorting to pop culture gimmick which several of the post Shrek animation flicks suffer heavily from. From the bunch of reviews that we are getting, this one is already on the list of the top movies of this year .

The look of the story is an undeniable treat, and the message it weaves is both funny and sweet. USA TODAY

while it lacks enchantment it retains just enough of the original’s charm to make good family fare. - ONE GUYS OPINION
