MoviemagiK watchout: NOVEL (Malayalam, 2008)

NOVEL
Release Date: Jan, 2008
Cast: Jayaram, Sada, Devan, Jagathy, Innocent
Directed by Vijayan (east coast)

Sethunath (Jayaram) runs an advertising comedy and is happily married. However when a young singer Priya Nandini comes into his life, he finds their friendship growing by leaps and bounds. This ends up creating a turmoil in the life of Sethunath and those near him.

The film marks the entry of Sada of ANNIYAN fame into Malayalam film.

However the real reason for all the news that the movie is making is since it is East Coast Vijayan's foray into film direction. Vijayan directs this film and with his music sense we know that the music will not disappoint us. Vijayan has roped in Bhalabaskar and ghazal singer Umbhai along with M Jayachandran for the music of this film, while Alagappan does the cinematography.

Pros: Might appeal to the family audiences
Cons: Jayaram fails to bring in the crowds anymore, slow pace

UPDATE: JAN 19
SIFY finds that Vijayan East Coast has come out with a film that will put you to sleep yet gives it an average rating! Also to be pointed out, this seems to be inspired from the Hugh Grant starrer Music and Lyrics- Great!

There is nothing novel about Novel, the debut directorial venture by Vijayan East Coast, though it is not a totally insufferable film. - NOW RUNNING 2/5

Altogether 'Novel' is a mediocre attempt with nothing Novel, except the songs. The high light of the film is definitely Sada, who proves well with her first outing in Malayalam - INDIAGLITZ

But then some people are on another planet altogether. Look what HINDU had to say-
A well-crafted script by Ashok and Sasi and dialogues interspersed with humour sustain the viewer’s interest all through the film.
