Moviemagik watchout: BOMBAY TO BANGKOK (hindi, 2008)

BOMBAY TO BANGKOK
Release Date: Jan 18, 2008
Cast: Shreyas , Lina Christianson
Music: Salim-Sulaiman, Ronnie, Sukhvinder Singh, Pritam
Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor

Shreyas owes everything to Nagesh for sure. Afterall it was Nagesh who introduced Shreyas to us with the inspirational IQBAL. And then he reintroduced his talents with DOR. And now Nagesh Kukunoor is making what looks like an out and out commercial flick, and he choses Shreyas itself to don the lead role. With Subash Ghai's Mukta Arts backing the project, Kukunoor could have chosen any lead man for the role. However kudos that he opted to stick with Shreyas itself.

Nagesh Kukunoor now tries his hand at a straightforward love story - the culture clash kind. This should bring him back to where it all started from - his Hyderabad Blue project. This time though it is a little more international in apprach, taking us to Thailand for the story to unfold.

BOMBAY TO BANGKOK however will have nothing about the journey. It is just a catchy title put for this film which is about a small time crook (Shreyas), who on the run from a local don ends up running all the way to Thailand.

However here he runs into a Thai girl Jasmine who he tries to woo. However now Jasmine also gets entangled in the run from the Don,

What is expected to be a light hearted comedy looks a lot cliche from every angle. However like the song goes, the makers also like to point the fact that it is - Same Same but Different!

Well for Shreyas sake, let us hope that it stays that way. And it just might be with characters like a Rapping Don, a Thai Sardar etc we might have an enjoyable flick on our hands. And did I say an appearance from Naserudhin Shah is also slated.

Pros: Nagesh Kukunoor movies are sensible stuff, easy to like. Could be enjoyable afterall.

Cons: If Nagesh's name was not invovled, this film would have been written off immediately!

Critics Rating: 1.60/5

This could have been a fun movie if it had strived for quality. No one did. So, do yourself a favour, fly over this Kukunoor’s nest. Or weep. 2/5 Hindustan Times

With its shoddy camerawork, indifferent direction and weak writing, it is Kukunoor's most disappointing film yet. 2/5 IBNLive

Lack of key ingredients result in a boring recipe that's neither Indian nor Thai. 1.5/5 Rediff

What holds promise at the start turns out to be a below-ordinary exercise midway through the film 1.5/5 Indiafm

Neither a comedy nor a thriller, this one is disturbing Cuckoonoor fare. 1/5- Times of India
