Trope De Elite bags GOLDEN BEAR at Berlin Film Awards

Tropa De Elite aka Elite Squad, a tale of the corruption of the police system set against the backdrop of Brazilian gang war goes on to win the Golden Bear for the best Film at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival. This portuguese film has already become a rage in the South American parts and will soon make a debut in US. Trope De Elite is the debut feature film from documentary maker Jose Padilha.

Though an Oscar frontrunner There Will Be Blood failed to win the best film award, it did walk away with a Silver bear for Best Director (Paul Anderson) as well as for best music (composer Jonny Greenwood).

Meanwhile the viewers choice award was bagged by Lemon Tree directed by Eran Riklis. It tells the story of a lemon grove that a Palestinian woman inherits, bordering the land of the Israeli defence minister.
