Priyadarshan is teaming up with Shemaroo Films to bring together yet another light hearted family entertainer - Mere Baap Pehle Aap.
The film sees Priyadarshan with the other fave Akshaye - not Kumar but of the Khanna variety. After successful stints with Hungama and Hulchul, Akshaye Khanna gets another role that is sure to win him more fans.
The film, which is a remake of the Malayalam film - Ishtam, sees Akshaye Khanna cast as a responsible son who not only looks after the family business, but also spends more time bailing out his retired father and his father's buddy (Om Puri and Paresh Rawal) out of the various troubles they get into. What the son realises is that the best way to get the dad in line is by hopefully getting him remarried. And when his father meets an old flame of his accidentally, beta realises exactly where to find the solution too!
The film unlike many of Priyadarshan's recent flicks is not a laugh riot, but a light hearted family entertainer with that classy comic touch relying mainly on the father-son chemistry.
THE PANEL ROOM
Priyadarshan seems to be running out of steam and it was expected to happen anytime. The problem is that they expect a certain brand of humour from Priyan and therefore whenver he attempts anything else variably different from what he is known for, then they come down harsh on him. And if he excel in what is expected from him, then again they brand him same ol , same ol. So it puts Priyan's future in a fix.
If you speak only of this latest flick, the critics have called the light hearted flick an inane script, horrible acting, and also exercises of miscasting. Only working in a few bits and pieces, this one seems to be cast away to doom.
On the whole, MERE BAAP PEHLE AAP is enjoyable in parts. At the box-office, it's at best an average fare. Taran Adarsh @Indiafm 2.5/5
The problem with Mere Baap Pehle Aap is its stubborn display of inconsistency. Sukanya Verma @ Rediff.com 2.5/5
it's easily one of the worst films you're likely to see this year. And remember we're only in June. Rajeev Masand @ IBNLive 0/5
If this movie has been inspired from elsewhere, I'm certainly not dying to catch the original. Mayank Shankar@mumbai mirror 1.5/5
