ISHQIYA

cast: Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi and Naseerudhin Shah
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey
genre: Drama/ comedy
Release date: JAN 29, 2010

Khalujaan (Naseerudhin) and Babban (Arshad) are con men on the run with a bounty. But with the rightful owner Mushtaq saab (Salman Shahid) hot on their heels, the duo decide to cross over to Nepal. The journey comes to a halt at Gorakhpur though when they learn that the acquaintance who was to have been their ticket across the border is no more. Hence they have to be content with the shelter offered by his widow Krishna (Vidya Balan) while they sort things out. The two soon learn that there is more to this lady of the house than what meets the eye.

Ishqiya undoubtedly is a movie that is fuelled by the performances. It is a fine example of a great ensemble performance that shines through. Each and every cast member has put in their best efforts, irrespective of how quirky the characters may seem.

Ishqiya is a charming, enticing flick that commits the mistake of biting a little more than what it could actually chew. In the process, ISHIQIYA, like its lead protagonists, digs up its own grave!

THE PANEL ROOM e-valuation : 3.6/5
ISHQIYA impresses them all. With appreciations consistent across the board, this flick looks to have set the benchmark early in the year. The performances, music, and writing seem to have overpowered all the other shortcomings that the film may have.

The film has a riveting plot, great performances, soulful music, an absorbing story and skilful direction to make the viewer fall in ishq with it. Taran Adarsh 4/5
Unapologetically adult in its relationships, its language and its humor, the film sparkles for its inspired writing and uncompromised direction. Rajeev Masand 3.5/5

Ishqiya is highly performance oriented and each actor from the cast is superlative. Ishqiya certainly is a film you will fall in love with. Gaurav Malani 3.5/5

In Ishqiya lingo, the film is a sutli bomb (firecracker) that tickles and explodes. But for the hurried and harried end. Go, have a blast. Nikhat Kazmi 3.5/5

Rarely are grace and profanity cited in the same breath. Debutant filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey's Ishqiya, however, is a privileged exception. Sukanya Verma 3.5/5
I think its safe to say that Ishqiya is the most crackling film you’ll see this year. It’s feisty and sly and very, very sexy. Anupama Chopra 3.5/5
Wooooah. What a fun and fabulous film, totally naughty and wicked. Minty Tejpal 3.5/5
