TOOTH FAIRY

cast: Dwayne Johnson, Ashley Judd, Julie Andrews, Stephan Merchant, Seth MacFarlane, Billy Crystal
Directed by Michael Lembeck
genre: family comedy
studio : 20th Century Fox
Release date: JAN 22, 2010

Dwayne Johnson is "The Tooth Fairy," also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids. When Derek discourages a youngster's hopes, he's sentenced to one week's hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand. At first, Derek "can't handle the tooth" - bumbling and stumbling as he tries to furtively wing his way through strangers' homes…doing what tooth fairies do. But as Derek slowly adapts to his new position, he begins to rediscover his own forgotten dreams.

Aargh....Dwayne Johnson getting all pansy ?? I am not sure how many of us really want to see that. On second thoughts, why do the action figures stoop to these JINGLE ALL THE WAY level from time to time.

But look who else tagged along...Ashley Judd, Julie Andrews, Billy Crystal?? Was it a case of some truly wonderful writing that lured these big names to this Michael Lembeck project. Or were they not informed that Lembeck is the very man behind misfires like Santa Clause 2 and 3.

One really would hope that this could be one of those enjoyable family flicks for all seasons. But the very fact that this did not make it earlier during the Thanksgiving-Christmas window clearly highlights what a low brow of a movie this is.

And I wish Dwayne is handed the people's elbow for this act!

And who better than Fox Studios to bring you this. I bet they must have had strong competition from the folks at Disneys though.

THE PANEL ROOM e-valuation (score 4.15 /10)
What you see is what you get! Rock in pinky dresses and fairy wings....you know what kind of expectations to keep, and that is exactly what you get. Strictly for kids I guess.
Dwayne Johnson brings the full force of his charm (and his appropriately pale chompers) to the title role, but flat direction and a committee-written script render The Tooth Fairy unacceptably dull. ROTTENTOMATOES 3.8/10
