Horror movies / slasher flicks have certainly lost a lot of its members. Things have never been the same like they were once upon a time. Gone were those days when the BOO factors were enough to draw the audiences. These days with the ever increasing dependence on technology, most of them have clearly lost the ability to spook the target audiences.
All what we have left is a lot of remakes of either flicks from yesteryears, or from some sleeper Asian horror success. And the latest PROM NIGHTS is no different. Here they have taken a rather bad Jamie Lee Curtis starrer and remade it.
Donna's senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life. After surviving a horrible tragedy, she has finally moved on and is enjoying her last year of high school. Surrounded by her best friends, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns deadly, there is only one person who could be responsible... a man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer, and survive a night "to die for."
THE PANEL ROOM
Not surprising at all to see how the movie is getting trashed all across the board. Not many were expecting anything different.
However surprisingly the folks at Variety thinks the movie has a chance to click with the target audiences....I won't be surprised even if it does. If Meet the Spartans can top the BO, so can a product like Prom Night.
Prom Night sound marginally watchable, I have erred. It's a bore, even taking into account unintentional moments of humor that resulted in audience members jeering. REELVIEWS 1/4
Well cast and solidly crafted, latest genre product from Screen Gems could strike B.O. paydirt if, as seems likely, it clicks with a target aud of teens and early twentysomethings VARIETY
