release date: March 21, 2008
This is the latest comedy from producer Judd Apatow, who is looking to continue his good run of 2007 (Knocked Up, Superbad) into the new year. This time however this is a more kid friendly venture with Owen Wilson roped in to play the lead.
Three kids are having a tough time at school, thanks to the school bully (Alex Frost). So they put up the money and ad for a bodyguard. However with the investment that the three have managed to cough up, all they can hire is Drillbit Taylor.
Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson) is a homeless chap who is planning to rob the kids and flee to Canada. That is until he bonds well with the kids and actually sticks his neck out to help them posing as a teacher. Also a fact that the English teacher also have fallen for Taylor helps his decision.
So now back to three piglets and a wolf...sorry, three nerds and that bully!

PANEL ROOM
So long as the freshmen are at center stage, this is cheerily engaging in an old-fashioned way. But when the upperclassmen and adults take over, it pretty much flunks out.
Drillbit Taylor: A Defeat for Team Apatow TIME
Drillbit, with its plethora of dull bits, will disappoint ardent fans of Wilson, Rogen or Apatow, but it might amuse a bored teen or two. USATODAY
A junior-league Superbad, Drillbit Taylor is a just passable pubescent comedy with a modest laugh count by Apatow factory standards VARIETY
this is a big drop in quality from anything boating Apatow involvement in the past few years. - REELVIEWS
Cannot blame anyone for being fooled that this one had some potential. Afterall on paper it seems to have everything going. Judd Apatow, Owen Wilson, writers Seth Rogen and all on board. However it seems that when these dudes go soft without those adult content, they come out pretty lame. The script has been labelled a lazy piece of work, and lead man Owen is accused of being repetitive. The loops in the plots seem to be much more than the laughs, and that is bad for any comedy with Wilson in it. Looks like Wilson get back to the Stiller camp to bail himself out. This one has got a univeral thumbs down from the critics and even the box office will not be any different either.
