So that is what they are calling the much talked about South Indian movie in Bollywood - Billoo Barber. Certainly a better title is the need of the day here...come on...they are ripping a story , atleast come up with an original title?!
So what is this funny titled tale all about....it is the simple tale of a small time barber struggling to make ends meet in a village, when all of a sudden he becomes popular when a film production team lands in the village. Reason- the barber happens to be an old friend of the so-called superstar acting in the film!
The film titled Katha Parayumbol is a malayalam runaway hit of 2007. So huge was the impact of this simple success story that even Rajinikanth was instantly touched and agreed to do the Tamil version of the story - titled Kuselan.
Now Priyadarshan, the man who cannot keep his hands away from his malayalam DVD collection, has decided to put forward the same tale in Bollywood. Masterfully, he has managed to coax SRK to get involved in it giving the film a whole new dimension. In fact SRK too fell for the simplicity of the film, that he has agreed not only to produce the movie but also to retain the soul and essence of the original.
So now this version will have Irfan Khan playing the small time barber while Shahrukh Khan will play the superstar that he is. So while SRK shall be shown prancing around with top heroines as part of the film shooting, the lady opposite Irfan is yet to be decided. And Priyan knows that it is a decision he will have to take wisely!
So wrap up...we have SRK producing this Priyadarshan directorial venture, the screenplay of the original will be adapted into Hindi by Mushtaque sheikh and Manisha Korde, with lyrics from Gulzar.
Red Chillies Entertainment - you have a good project on hand....Priyadarshan.....do not go and mess this one up! Atleast with the title, seems like they have...
And Priyan, please acknowledge Sreenivasan's contribution to this rather than disguising this as a take on the Krishna -Sudama tale!
Meanwhile lead man Irfan Khan is a very excited man thanks to the wonderful character that he gets to play. source: Mumbai Mirror. Who wouldn't be when you have SRK playing second fiddle to this barber in town!
