MoviemagiK watchout: PDICHIRUKKU (Tamil, 2008)

PIDICHIRUKKU
Cast: Ashok, Vishaka
Directed by Kanagu
Music: Manu Ramesan

While big movies are coming fast and hard from all the corners of the Tamil film industry, there beneath it all lies a small film with newcomers trying to make it a mark.

Thankfully first to arrive for the Pongal, it will give people enough time to get the good word going around.

The plot line is nothing new. The film is a simple love story between a Hindu middle class boy Vel (Ashok) and Manju (Vishaka) a Christian. Both study in the same college and like most love stories, after the initial quarrels end up deeply in love with each other.

However the girl’s father Mariadas (Sampat Rai), on realizing this romance, gets furious and beats up the boy. When he realizes that Vel is not the kind that will back off easily, he just packs his family and leaves the city.

Now we have Vel trying to find the whereabouts of his love which takes him and his sidekick to Pune.

A good screenplay seems to be working in its favour despite the plot being age old.
However the screenplay takes a fall in the second half making it disappointing.

SIFY has given it a thumbs up while BEHINDWOODS have pointed out how its poor second half ruins the good work!

Had the second half had been scripted and polished with more fitting sequences, Pidichirukku would have definitely evolved as a more likeable (Pidichirukku) film. - GALATTA
